User Agreement
Version 1 - October 5, 2026
Please read this before you use Upbeat Money. By pressing "I agree" (or by installing or using the program) you accept it. If you don't agree, don't use the program; if you bought it from the Microsoft Store, the Store's own refund rules apply.
1. What Upbeat Money is - and what it isn't
Upbeat Money is a budgeting calculator. It takes the numbers you type in (or that you ask it to read from a statement or pay stub) and shows you a plan: what each paycheck has to cover, what might be spare, and ways you might be able to pay debt down faster.
It is not a bank, a bill-paying service, a financial adviser, a tax preparer, a lawyer or an accountant. It never moves money, never pays a bill and never contacts a lender or a bank for you. Nothing in it is financial, tax, legal or investment advice.
2. Your numbers are your responsibility
Everything Upbeat Money shows is worked out from what you put into it. That means:
- What you type is up to you. If a bill amount, a due date, a balance, an interest rate, a paycheck amount or anything else is typed wrong, left out or out of date, the plan will be wrong too.
- The settings you choose are up to you. If a feature is switched on or off, or set up a way that doesn't match how your money really works (for example Paycheck Pairing, the auto-pay account, a bill marked as charged to a card, or a benefit card), the numbers will come out wrong.
- Things read from documents must be checked. The statement reader and the pay stub reader fill in what they find on the page, and they can misread it. Nothing they read is added until you check it and say so - and that check is yours to make.
- Guesses are labelled as guesses. Some figures are worked out (an early payoff amount, a card's minimum payment, a yearly total). The lender's, card company's, employer's or agency's own figure is always the one that counts.
Upbeat Money and its maker are not responsible for mistakes, typos, wrong settings, missing information or anything else entered or chosen in the program that makes a number or a result come out wrong, or for anything that happens because of it.
3. Paying your bills is up to you
Upbeat Money does not pay bills. It can only show what it has been told is due. We are not responsible for any bill, rent, loan, card or other payment that is late, missed, short, made twice or paid from the wrong account, or for any late fee, interest, penalty, credit report mark, service shut-off, repossession, eviction or any other result of that happening. Always check your due dates and balances with the company you owe.
4. The plans are suggestions you are free to ignore
The payoff plans (Cash Flow, Snowball, Avalanche), What Can I Afford, the investing suggestion, the Wants & needs list, card advice, "what if I cut it" and everything else the program recommends are ideas, shown at your discretion. You don't have to follow any of them. They only show where you might be able to improve, based on what you entered. Whether a plan suits you - and what you actually do with your money - is your decision alone.
Savings goals, bill averages and any investment figures in Upbeat Money are trackers: they show what you entered and what it adds up to. They are not savings, investment or tax advice, and nothing in the program recommends buying or selling anything.
5. Yearly totals are not for taxes
The new-year check-up, the year backup and its highlights (money earned, debt paid off and so on) are worked out from what you entered and logged. They are not always accurate and they are not tax documents. Don't use them to file taxes or to apply for anything; use your W-2s, 1099s, statements and other official paperwork.
6. Keep your own backups
Your plan is kept in files on your PC. A failed drive, a Windows reinstall, a virus or a lost or stolen PC can lose it. Upbeat Money saves backups on the same PC and offers to save everything to a file; putting a copy on a USB stick or another drive regularly is up to you. We can't recover a plan we never had.
7. What leaves your PC, and when
Upbeat Money has no account and no sign-in, and your plan is never sent to us. It only goes online in these cases:
- Checking for updates. It asks the Microsoft Store (Store edition) or upbeatmoney.com (website edition) whether a newer version exists. Only the version number is involved. The website edition's check can be switched off in Settings.
- Reading a store listing (Wants & needs add-on), only for a link you drop or paste in, and only when that's switched on in Settings.
- Support and feedback. When you press Support or Feedback, the program fills in an email for you with the version, edition, build, add-ons and Windows version so we can help faster. Nothing is sent until you send it yourself from your own email program, and you can read and delete any of it first. No numbers from your plan are put in it.
The full privacy policy is at upbeatmoney.com/privacy.
8. Licences, add-ons and updates
- The program and each add-on are licensed, not sold, for your own household's use. Website-edition keys are tied to one PC unless a family pack says otherwise; Store purchases follow your Microsoft account under the Microsoft Store's terms.
- Updates. Each copy gets new versions, including any new features, for one year from when it was first used (or bought, for a website key). After that the program keeps working exactly as it does - nothing you already have is taken away. New features released after your year are locked until you renew updates for another year. Fixes delivered through the Microsoft Store reach every Store copy.
- Don't copy, resell, share keys for, or try to get around the licensing of the program or its add-ons.
9. No warranty
Upbeat Money is provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty of any kind, including that it is error-free, that it suits any particular purpose, or that its numbers are correct. You use it at your own risk.
10. Limit of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Upbeat Money and its maker are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind - including money lost, fees, interest, penalties, credit damage or lost data - arising from using or not being able to use the program, even if told it might happen. If any liability can't be excluded, it is limited to what you paid for the program and add-ons in the twelve months before the claim.
Some places don't allow some of these limits; where that's so, they apply only as far as the law allows.
11. Changes to this agreement
If this agreement changes, the program shows the new version and asks you to agree again before you carry on. The version you agreed to, and when, is shown in Settings.
